The mystical, magical powers of the universe come together as two women – in different parts of the world – wish on the same star. One is hoping for a child, the other for a home for her child. What happens is nothing short of miraculous.
Marra’s Star is available to order in English and Spanish! It’s a simple little story for young children (2-8), or anyone who loves children’s books (like me) or beautiful art (OK, I’m biased). But there’s a whole lot of backstory behind this simple little story. And that’s the reason for this website.
See, it’s about adoption. My husband, Randy Evans, and I adopted Marra when she was three months old. She was born in Guatemala.
Adoption is complex – a unique experience for everyone. Each family’s story is different, and sometimes there are no answers to our questions. I wrote this as a way to explain to our young daughter how loved she was. She’s now 31 and an accomplished artist. It’s a dream come true for both of us to share this story with the world. Thank you, 1010 Publishing (1010publishing.com) for believing in our story.
In support of both those adopted from and those growing up in faraway lands, 100% of net author/illustrator proceeds from Marra’s Star will go to The Gift of Identity Fund, gift-of-identity.org, providing grants for international adoptees visiting their birth country, and Seeds of Learning, seedsoflearning.org, bettering educational opportunities in Latin America.
We hope you’ll enjoy our story and the backstory, told through words and pictures on this website. Please watch this space for upcoming events.
Available on the shelf at these great shops or online. Or have your favorite bookstore order for you.
